After five years of maintaining, and paying for, this site, it is being replaced. The new regime in charge of the Master Gardener program has decided that it will create a different site and have it administered out of the Extension office.

I began this site shortly after the second class of the Master Gardeners graduated. It was suggested at the meeting that members contribute stories, articles and pictures to keep the site fresh and interesting. There was a message board where both members and non-members could exchange information. There was an “ask us” page so people with questions about gardening could hopefully get answers.

None of that lasted. Once things went from the idea stage to actually contributing some time and effort, there was a great silence. My ability to “keep the site current” had to rely on the monthly newsletters or other bits of luck. No stories were contributed. No articles were submitted. The only pictures ever posted were ones I took myself and put up.

Maybe the new site will be more successful since those in charge are the ones with the information. I hope so. Trying to keep something up like this in a total vacuum is not fun, easy or apparently appreciated.

The new site is supposed to be up sometime before the quarterly meeting in October.
